Identify what triggers the next purchase
A calendar purchase plan and a price-driven averaging-down bot create different commitments. Pionex’s Spot DCA (Martingale) guide describes an initial purchase followed by safety orders during declines. The available parameters depend on the mode and current creation screen.
The word safety does not make an additional order protective. Another purchase puts more capital into the asset. Before considering take-profit settings, write down the amount each possible order would spend.
How 100 USDT becomes a 3,200 USDT commitment
Consider a deliberately invented plan: a 100 USDT initial order, followed by five additional orders starting at 100 USDT and doubling each time. It is a sizing exercise, not a recommended setup or a statement about Pionex defaults. Assume every permitted buy executes; fees are outside the amounts below.
| Order | New commitment | Cumulative commitment |
|---|---|---|
| Initial | 100 | 100 |
| Additional 1 | 100 | 200 |
| Additional 2 | 200 | 400 |
| Additional 3 | 400 | 800 |
| Additional 4 | 800 | 1,600 |
| Additional 5 | 1,600 | 3,200 |
Calculate the full series before allocating
For initial order B, first additional order A, multiplier m and N additional orders, the hypothetical total is B + A × (1 + m + … + m^(N−1)). When m = 1, it is B + A × N. When m differs from 1, the same sum is B + A × (m^N − 1) ÷ (m − 1). These formulas define our example, not a universal exchange order-sizing formula.
With B = A = 100 and N = 5, equal-sized additions total 600 USDT. A multiplier of 1.5 totals 1,418.75 USDT; doubling totals 3,200 USDT. A sixth additional order in the doubling example would require another 3,200, taking cumulative commitment to 6,400. Increasing the limit is a new exposure decision.
What happens when the next purchase is unavailable?
Suppose the full 3,200 USDT plan has filled and its assets are then worth 2,240 USDT. The illustrative mark-to-market loss is 960 USDT, or 30%, before costs. This is a stress-test assumption, not a probability, market forecast or measured Pionex result.
With no further additions allowed, averaging down cannot continue under that plan. The position can still fall. An asset value of 2,240 would need to rise by about 42.86% to reach 3,200 before costs; a 30% rise would reach only 2,912. A lower average entry does not promise that rebound.
Keep costs separate from the purchase budget
At an illustrative 0.05% fee, 3,200 USDT of filled purchases implies 1.60 USDT in buy-side trading fees. A later sale creates another charge on its own executed value. Spread, slippage and other charges are excluded. This calculation does not determine what the live interface reserves, or which asset pays the fee.
Inspect the current bot preview for total allocation, minimum order sizes, rounding, reserved funds and stop behavior. A stop rule can reduce intended exposure but cannot guarantee an execution price or continued platform access. Do not assume that stopping automation necessarily disposes of the holdings.
Write the failure scenario before the first order
- Record the first order, every allowed addition and the maximum total commitment.
- State whether triggers depend on time or price, and whether order sizes grow.
- Decide what to review after the last allowed order; a rebound is not an exit plan.
- Separate an affordable loss from a displayed take-profit target. Avoid borrowing or using essential spending money.
- Check current product and country eligibility. TradeNexa is independent of Pionex; crypto trading can result in total loss and these examples promise no return.
